Gacha Premium questions

Arena Gacha Premium rewards are pretty short. First place gets it for 3 days, 2nd place for 2 days and 3rd place gets it for 1 day. If you already have Gacha Premium and get in the top 3, you get Gacha Eggs instead.
Gacha Premium grants you double experience and Gacha Coins. It also doubles eggs from daily login rewards. Daily login rewards are eggs that you get from pets with mates and raid leaderboard rewards.
The nice thing about the arena rewards is that it's based on the number of arenas won rather than having super powerful pets, so it's accessible to anyone if they're willing to put In the time.
How likely am I to get eggs from mates? Does it matter how many pairs of pets I have?
Each pair of pets has a 3.5% chance to produce another egg
I have never got a pet from these eggs, just awakened my other pets, is this supposed to happen?
Odd , I have gotten multiple new pets from eggs produced by mates
