What is the difference between defense, resilience, and resistance?

Defense is a flat reduction to the incoming damage. If a pet is hit for 1,000 damage and your it has 500 defense, it will reduce the damage to 500. Attacks that hit multiple times have each hit reduced by the target’s defense. So if an attack hits 5 times for 1,000 damage and the target has 100 defense, the pet will only take 500 damage.

Resistance is a percentage reduction for that element. The cap to resistance is 75%.

Resilience is also a percentage reduction similar to resistance with 75% default cap. Brand of Frosthorn increases the pet’s resilience cap by 10%, so the most you can get is 85%.

Resilience also makes your pet less likely to be affected by Stun, Blind, Confuse and Paralyze. Each time your pet attacks and has any of those status effects, your resilience percentage is your chance to not be affected by it that turn. Brand of Frosthorn also increases your chance to withstand those status effects by an additional 15%, so if you have 85% resilience with Brand of Frosthorn, your pet is immune to Stun, blind, confuse and paralyze.

Damage is reduced by resistance, then resilience, then defense.

I was planning on making resilience just to help with those status effects, but pets deal way more damage than they have health, so I made it also reduce damage like resistance.
It’s a bit weird to have two percentage damage reduction attributes, but people don’t really like to invest a ton into defenses and increasing health, so I tried to make it somewhat easy to build up some decent defenses.

There’s also a minimum damage reduction so damage can’t be fully negated. It starts at 10% I believe and as the damage increases into the trillions and beyond, it gets a bit lower.

It’s pretty hard to balance all of this stuff with pretty much endless progression on your equipment. So this is how it all works now, it may change in the future if I can think of some better ways to handle things. Resilience may go back to just being helpful against stun, blind, etc. if easier ways to build up a bunch of health come out. Embers of Major Health and Vitality allow you to increase your health by quite a bit, but nowhere near enough to take a hundred billion damage attack or more.

I've been finding the vitality elixirs to be really good. Pets are lasting longer and longer before their health runs out. I also like the various defence elixirs, pets are becoming much hardier so I highly recommend more defence elixirs. Speed is great for pets who want to hit their opponents first, but strength is best for one-kill shots. Please use your elixirs, guys!

Will things that boost the number of times move hits work on non-multi hit moves? As an example, wrath of winter. If an enemy is chilled, will I be evil to land multiple hits? With something like summon sprig, boulder toss, call for back up?

Also, how are people doing trillions of damage? What am I missing?
