Having trouble with Alexa not recognizing pet names

Posted by Colossus on Jan. 1, 2024

On the echo version, I cant use my feera and some other pets, I cant examine them or take them in the forest because whenever I say their names, Alexa thinks I’m saying other names, and it just keeps saying it can’t recognize it. Is this a bug, and if so, is it going to be fixed in the future? I’ve been having this problem for a couple months, so I haven’t really been playing, and it won’t let me give orb of mastery to my pets either, the only way it works is if I use the typing thing in the Alexa app, but I can’t actually do it on my echo.

It's a voice recognition issue. Alexa no longer understands the pet names and sends real words that are similar instead. I've tried to add as many of these words to all of the pets as synonyms, but it seems to be a neverending and quite messy task. For Firra, you can try saying Fire Elemental.

Is there a way for this issue to be fixed?

I don't have any control over what Alexa hears, so I can't fix the voice recognition issue. Even adding slot values doesn't seem to restrict what she hears. An example of this is the item Worm. The item name is registered as a slot value, but half of the time she hears Warm or Learn rather than Worm. Both Warm of Learn are not registered slot values, but she sends them to the skill anyway. I have implemented a matching system to try to figure out what the user was trying to say rather than what Alexa heard, but I haven't added it everywhere yet. The matching system also has a lot of room for improvement. The other issue is that sometimes she doesn't want to send words that aren't slot values, and she just ignores what the user said and says the reprompt again or sometimes doesn't respond at all. If you say a word that she ignores a few times, she will kick you out of the skill. There are also weird words that seem to trigger things outside of the skill, like saying "water" for whatever reason sometimes kicks you out of the skill and reads the Wikipedia article for water.

It's very frustrating. Voice recognition is an extremely hard problem to solve, so I try not to be too critical of Amazon and Alexa for these problems. We just have to work with the tools we have available to us and try to make the best of it.

I've said this a few times and haven't started working on it yet, but I do want to attempt to allow players to rename their pets. Some of the issues I've had previously with renaming pets could be fixed by the name-matching system I've implemented.

Gacha pets isn't the only game where Alexa doesn't always know what you said. I play another game where I get kicked out quite often. Many times it's when I interupt what she is saying by saying Alexa to interrupt her. Also what happens is I'll give a command and Alexa will do something different from what the command was or like yu said it will kick you out of the game and give you information on whatever it was you had said. Most of the time things work just fine and what's nice is we can play Gacha Pets on the web.
