What's wrong with the Auto-battle feature

I'm using the browser version of the game and when I click "enable auto-battle", the feature freezes after a while. When I come back to it, it tells me that I'm sending requests too quickly, so I have to disable the auto-battle feature and enable it again. The auto-battle feature used to work fine until a couple of days ago.
